What is CalWORKs?

CalWORKs, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, is a public assistance program that provides temporary assistance to families with children and expectant mothers.

Families enrolled in CalWORKs may also qualify for some of the following services:

• Financial support: For up to 60 months
• CalFresh: Food assistance
• Medi-Cal: Health insurance
• Child and Medical Support Enforcement 

• Employment Services: Training, career counseling, education support, and job placement 
• Family Planning
• Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP)
• Free supportive services, such as childcare, diapers, mental health counseling, and transportation
